A little bit about me…
Hi, I'm Sophia ~ an artist who currently lives in the mountains of California and grew up on the sandy beaches of Hawaii. Living between those two worlds has shaped the way I see things and deeply influences my art. Nature is always at the heart of what I do, and I'm endlessly inspired by the animals, landscapes, and small details that make up everyday life.
I've been creating for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I had a big imagination and loved exploring new ideas, building little worlds in my mind from the simplest things around me. That sense of curiosity never left ~ it's still what drives me to pick up a paintbrush today.
My work is mostly mixed media, with acrylics as my go-to, and I love exploring how familiar things ~ a leaf, an animal, an object from daily life, can tell a story through color and texture. I try to capture not just how something looks, but the feeling it carries.
I'm also a big believer that creativity doesn't stop at one medium. When I'm not painting, I'm often playing my viola or double bass, experimenting with different materials, or working on crafty projects just for the joy of making something with my hands. And if you peek into my studio, you'll probably see my dog Mabel curled up nearby, she's my constant companion.
For me, art is about connection ~ to nature, to memory, to each other. My hope is that when you look at my work, you see a bit of the world through my eyes and feel that spark of childhood wonder, thoughtfulness and curiosity. And when you look closer, I hope you can rediscover the wonder that surrounds us in even the simplest moments.
